ROB WOOD, ADJUNCT ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: B.MUS

Rob Wood graduated with a degree in Music Performance from Brigham Young University.  At this time he was also company pianist with Ballet West in Salt Lake City where he accompanied many teachers, including Bruce Marks, Toni Landers, Willam Christensen, Denise Schultz, and Louis Godfrey.  In 1991, he began working for the Aspen Ballet Company & School as music director and principal accompanist.  He has spent his summers as pianist for a variety of workshops in the Inter-Mountain West including Dance Aspen, Vail International Summer of Dance, Aspen Ballet, Brigham Young University, and the Nevada Festival Ballet Summer Workshop.  During the many workshops, Rob has accompanied many international teachers including: Hillary Cartwright, David Howard, Jillana, Gilbert Meyer, Toni Pimble, Elizabeth Shipiatsky, Violette Verdy, Edward Villella, Gretchen Ward Warren and Patricia Wilde.  While at Vail, Rob performed on stage accompanying a performance of George Balanchine's "Harliquinade" with Ethan Stiefel and Margaret Tracy at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Recently, Rob recorded two ballet CDs with master teacher, David Howard, in New York City. They are being marketed worldwide. Additionally, he was a lecturer and principal pianist with the 2003 CRAFT of Choreography Conference in Carlisle, PA with Regional Dance America.

Rob is currently Adjunct Associate Professor in the Ballet Department at the University of Utah, as well as musical director and principal pianist for the Utah Regional Ballet.  He provides music representing a vast repertoire of various styles, including classical, jazz, and popular melodies. Besides his work as a pianist, Rob has gained a reputation as a conductor of both choral and instrumental ensembles, having worked with Maestro Varujan Kojian, Dr. Jerald Ottley of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Helmut Rilling. Rob is married to the former Ballet West dancer Susan Sattler, and they are the parents of five children.
